Studies have demonstrated that countries with high educational performance have a strong culture of family participation in the educational process, and that the involvement of families has a significant impact on the quality of education outputs. The current reality in schools indicates through field practices to the weakness of this culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as shown by a study conducted by the Ministry of Social Affairs last year and revealed a weakness of family participation in education process. This will negatively affect the individuals, the family, the community and the economy on the long term, as the family represents the essential element in the educational process and the nucleus of knowledge community
In order to achieve the national transformation in the family concept of knowledge the current gap represented in the lack of family contribution in the educational process, and the lack of knowledge and skills that help the families to provide support to improve their children’s cognitive abilities, improve their skills in life, and enhance their values, should be confronted.
Conscious of the significance of joint relationship between the school, the family and the community in the successful educational process, the Ministry of Education has initiated planning and preparing a partnership initiative between school, family and community as a strategic element in the process of the educational reform and development, and as a necessary national demand in the context of the scientific developments and its contemporary challenges that make school unable to work in isolation from the family and the surrounding community. This initiative is in need of a strong partnership that achieves the mutual benefit for students and supports the efforts to develop and improve education according to a vision of clear roles and definite responsibilities.
In this regard, the first scientific forum on partnership between the school, the family and the community was held under a generous patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdul-Aziz, Prince of Riyadh from 3 to 4 April 2016 under the theme, “Together” and was attended by H.E. Minister of Education and some of the educational officials. A number of local and international experts, researchers, and some of those who are interested in developing education, inside and outside the Kingdom, also participated in the forum. It is expected that the 2nd forum, in Riyadh from 26 to 27 November 2017, will witness a high-level participation from officials, experts, local and international specialists, as well as private sector institutions, associations and institutions concerned with education. The forum will be widely covered by the media through the media committee which will make advertisements, meetings and documentation for all activities.
